Since the 2d generation of Pokémon games , Pokémon have been able toreproduceto create new Pokémon . Pokémon can learn Modern moves through breeding , and what is more some Pokémon are only obtainable with this method acting .
The basics
education occurs at the Pokémon Daycare . If two compatible Pokémon are left with the daycare lady , they will produce an testicle . ( The secret plan are purposely vague about how this encounter . ) Pokémon are compatible for breed if :
A Pokémon confluence the first criteria can also breed withDitto . Genderless Pokémon can only cover with ditto mark .
Once you take the testicle and walk around with it for a while , it will cover into a level 1 Pokémon ( or grade 5 in Generations 2 - 3 ) . The Pokémon that hatches will be thesame speciesas the female , but at thebottom of the evolutionary strand . For lesson , breeding a femaleBlastoisewith a compatible Pokémon would bring forth aSquirtleegg . In the example of Ditto , the Pokémon egg will always be the non - Ditto Pokémon - so if you spawn Ditto with a maleCharizard , the testis would be aCharmander .
Exceptions
There are two set of male - female counterpart : Nidoran ♀ /Nidoran ♂ andIllumise / Volbeat . Breeding one of these with a compatible Pokémon will give you either the male or distaff random variable . For example , breeding a maleGolduckwith Nidoran ♀ would concede either Nidoran ♀ or Nidoran ♂ .
Note that in Generation 2 - 4 breeding the male variant with Ditto only produces a male ball .
Some Pokémon also produce varying bollock , free-base on the item hold by the parent . When a particular Incense is held , the materialisation will be a baby Pokémon , otherwise it will be the next stage up in the evolutionary line . For example , breed a femaleRoseradewill produce aRoseliaegg , but if the Roserade is defend a Rose Incense , it will produce aBudewegg . Seethe list of child Pokémon belowfor item .
The PokémonManaphyandPhioneare listed in the Water 1 and Fairy egg mathematical group , however they can not spawn with others in that group , only with Ditto . For each of them the result is a Phione egg , but Phione does not evolve into Manaphy .
Passing down moves
The main design of breeding is ordinarily to obtain a Pokémon that knows sure moves . If themale Pokémonknows moves that the baby Pokémon is adequate to of learning , the child will know them when it hatches from the egg . Prior to Generation 5 this was a skilful direction toreuseTMs that you taught a Pokémon and can not re - prevail ( Tm are no longer authorize down by breeding ) .
The baby will know any move that it memorize at level 1 . If both parents have a go at it a move that the baby would learn by stage up , the youngster will also know it upon hatch . For representative , breeding twoAmpharosknowingThunderwill fork up a Mareep know Thunder at level 1 .
moreover , there are some moves Pokémon can only get a line by breeding - these are calledegg moves , and are listed in our Pokédex alongside the other move . In most cases , another Pokémon in the same ball group learns the move by storey up and can pass it on by upbringing , but sometimes you need tochain breedfrom one Pokémon to another to another .
If there are too many candidate moves that the infant can learn , they follow this case in point , with each raw move overwriting former ones :
Passing down abilities
A distaff Pokémon ( or male person when bred with Ditto ) has a 60 % chance of passing down its power to the offspring ; otherwise the materialization ’s power is randomly chosen from its veritable abilities . In practice , this mean that if the parent has a steady ability , there is an 80 % chance the shaver has the same ability one-armed bandit ( 60 + 20 ) and 20 % hazard it has the other slot . For hidden power , the nipper has a 60 % chance of having its hidden power and 20 % chance for each of its even abilities ( or 40 % if it only has one regular ability ) .
Note that the ability itself may be different if the Pokémon evolutions have different power choice . For example , Poochyenahas the ability Run forth or Quick Feet , whileMightyenahas Intimidate or Quick Feet . A Poochyena bred from a Mightyena with Intimidate has an 80 % prospect of having Run aside and 20 % chance of Quick Feet . If the Mightyena has Quick Feet , Poochyena has an 80 % chance of Quick Feet and 20 % fortune of Run out .
Note that in Gen 3 - 4 , the power of the hatched ball is randomly chosen from the two possibilities ( 50 % each ) irrespective of the parents ' ability . In Gen 5 , only females could pop off down power ; males spawn with Ditto regress to the 50/50 chance for each ability .
Passing down natures
Pokémon can also inheritnatureswhile breeding . Normally the nature is select at random from the 25 possibilities , but as natures raise and lower sure stats , often you will desire a specific nature . So if a Pokémon is holding theEverstoneitem , its child is guaranteed to have the same nature . ( If both parents hold an Everstone the nature is opt at random between the two . )
Note that prior toPokémon Black 2 / White 2 , natures only have a 50 % luck of being passed down . InEmeraldit only apply to the female parent or Ditto . And in Gen 4 both parents must be from the same nomenclature game .
Passing down IV stats
From Generation 3 ( Ruby / Sapphire ) onward , Pokémon materialisation will also inherit some of theIndividual Valuesfrom the parent . ( IVs are hidden values that improve your last stats . )
The babe will inherit three stats from either parent . So if you were breeding a maleInfernapeand femaleNinetales , the resultingVulpixcould inherit the HP and Defense IVs from Infernape and the Speed IV from Ninetales .
The Little Joe chosen are random and in the case of the same one being selected twice , the former would be overwritten with the latter . For example , if the game opt Ninetales ' HP and Attack , then Infernape ’s Attack , then the baby would only inherit two IVs - the H.P. from Ninetales and Attack from Infernape .
FromHeartGold / SoulSilveronward a new shop mechanic was added to control this . If either parent is holding one of theEV - trainingPoweritems then the kid will inherit the represent IV . Two dissimilar IVs are arbitrarily inherit from the parents as normal , and the remaining three are completely random . If both parent harbor a Power item then one of the two stats is chosen at random . The power items are :
So for example , keep back the Power Belt think of the babe will inherit the Pokémon ’s Defense IV and two random non - Defense IVs from either parent .
FromX / Yonward , a parent guard theDestiny Knotitem causes the baby to inherit five IVs from that parent . If the other parent holds a Power point , the infant will inherit the corresponding IV and then four random IV from the Destiny Knot parent .
Baby Pokémon
Some Pokémon may only be obtained by breeding - these are know asbaby Pokémon . Many baby Pokémon can be obtained in the wild in belated game . Several baby Pokémon also want an detail to be held by the parent .
Egg group connections
The table below shows how each of the egg groups are interconnected . It contribute an estimate of how easy it is for a Pokémon to learn a move from another Pokémon . We used to have a graphical record but there are now too many connections to make it clear .
Example : Let ’s say you have a Pokémon in the Fairy egg group with a move you want to spawn onto a Pokémon from the Dragon egg group . There are no Pokémon in both chemical group so you ’d need to find an average grouping . Looking at the rows for both Fairy and Dragon below you ’ll see that the grouping Field , Flying and Water 1 connect to both . So you ’d necessitate to spawn the move onto a Pokémon like Pikachu ( Fairy / Field groups ) then onto a Pokémon like Arbok ( Field / Dragon groups ) .
Egg groups
Each Pokémon is assigned to one or more nut chemical group , and only Pokémon in the same egg group may breed .
Examples
Here are some examples to make things clean !
1. Basic breeding
If we have a femaleRaichuand we want to get a new one , we can spawn it to get Pichu . First we ask to happen a compatible Pokémon . A Pikachu / Raichu of the polar grammatical gender will always work , otherwise we require to look for other Pokémon in the same egg radical .
Raichu is inFairyandFieldegg groups , so we have plenty of Pokémon to choose from ! For lesson a manful Shinx , Bidoof , Umbreon or Granbull or over 130 other Pokémon will do the task just fine .
2. Breeding with Ditto
We can breed a malePrimeapewith Ditto . The sister will be aMankey . If we bred the Primeape with a female Pokémon then the sister would be that specie , not Mankey .
A Pokémon such asMagnetonmust breed with Ditto to getMagnemite , because it is genderless .
3. Charizard with Dig & Iron Tail
Note : this applies only to Gen 2 - 5 ; TMs are no longer inherited and we can recycle Tm at will .
Charizard , like many other Pokémon , can learn the moveDigvia TM28 . But if you already used the TM then you may be able to breed it onto a Charmander .
Let ’s take on you instruct TM28 to a maleAggron(who has also check Iron Tail by grade up ) and we also have a distaff Charmeleon . Charmeleon and Aggron are both in theMonstergroup so they can breed .
When we cover these two Pokémon , the resulting Charmander will know Dig and Iron Tail , since it can get word both those moves by TM ( even though Iron Tail was not in reality taught by TM ) . calculate on what other moves the parents know these two moves may overwrite other basic movement like Growl or Scratch .
4. Drapion with Night Slash
Drapionhas a cool power , Sniper , which does 3x damage under critical hits instead of the usual 2x . So it will be quite handy to have the moveNight Slashsince it has a in high spirits critical - attain ratio .
Skorupi / Drapion get a line Night Slash through breeding . There is no TM for it , so we will need to multiply with a compatible Pokémon that knows the move . Drapion is in theBugandWater 3egg groups , so we appear there for any Pokémon that can learn Night Slash .
It turns out thatScytheramong others learns it at level 45 . ( YanmegaandHeracrosscan get it from the Move Relearner , which may be sluttish . )
So now we just breed a manlike Scyther knowing the move , with a female Drapion to get a Skorupi that lie with Night Slash !
observe : this specific instance is no longer required as Drapion now learns Night Slash by level up .
5. Using Smeargle
In example 3 we taught Dig to a manly Aggron . If we had taught it to a female Aggron there would usually be no way to spend the move down through breeding . Enter our good friend , Smeargle .
Smeargle is unique in that it only learns one move directly -Sketch- which permanently copies the old move used in engagement . With a male Smeargle we can copy Dig from our Aggron , then spawn Smeargle with a female Pokémon to pass the move down .
you’re able to simulate any move from any Pokémon ( for instance wild Pokémon ) , but for more reliable issue , you will want to participate a double conflict with Smeargle and your own Pokémon with the move you require to copy . There are usually several double battle trainers in the games ; Gen 5 also has wild double battle , while Gen 6 has double struggle coffee shop . Note that thecompetitiveareas like Battle Subway / Maison / Tree or wi - fi battles do n’t re-create the move permanently . Once in a treble fight , expend Sketch on your companion and voila ! You will have your move ready to engender onto any Pokémon .
Smeargle is in the Field egg group , so it can breed with a large number of Pokémon . This also think all Pokémon in the Field chemical group can learn egg moves without chain breeding ( see below ) .
6. Chain breeding
This can get quite complex , but we ’ll provide a straightforward example . Sometimes a Pokémon can learn an orchis move , but there are no compatible Pokémon that get it easily . This is the case withUmbreonandWish- Umbreon can learn Wish through breeding , but no compatible Pokémon learn it by level up .
Umbreon is in the Field egg group , so we depend there . The otherEevee - lutionscan learn Wish via breeding ( which does n’t aid us much ) , but so too can the Pikachu / Raichu line . Since they range two egg group we can now look in the Fairy radical for compatible Pokémon , where we findTogetic , get a line Wish at degree 28 .
This mean we can chain breed Wish from Togetic to Pikachu , then from Pikachu to Umbreon . Here is the appendage :
Whew ! We finally got there ! This can be a long procedure but if you want the gross moveset , sometimes it ’s the only way . annotation : we did neglect Smeargle in this representative . If you have one then you could sketch Wish from Togetic and breed straight onto Umbreon ; It cuts out the hassle of breeding and evolve Pichu but it ’s still the same number of Pokémon .
