But the electric SUV has some ruffianly competition ahead of it . surely , it has to compete with theKia EV9 , but it also has to compete with a more expensive , more bounty electric SUV , in the form of the Rivian R1S , which is now in its second generation .
Perhaps we should get this out of the room right now — theRivian R1Sis in all probability a good fomite than the Ioniq 9 will be , though to be just , we have n’t tested theIoniq 9just yet . But how much well is it ? Is it deserving the extra John Cash ?
Design
The conception of these vehicles is pretty different . They both calculate like S.U.V. , with orotund , blockish bodies . But while the Rivian R1S is a little blockier , the Ioniq 9 has a slightly more curved roofline and sculpted sides .
On the front of theIoniq 9can be find a long light bar that prolong along the front of the railway car , while on the back , the vehicle has two vertically - aligned taillights . The Rivian R1S has a light legal community on the front too , but it ’s interrupted by Rivian ’s now - signature oval headlight . On the back , the R1S has a long abstemious bar for the tail lamp .

The R1S has a dual show setup too , but there ’s no Android Auto or CarPlay . gratefully , Rivian ’s built - in software is jolly good , so you may or matt-up not miss it .
You ’ll have to decide how many seats you want , and whether you prefer better build - in software , or funding for CarPlay . This category is another sleeper .
Performance
The Hyundai Ioniq 9 will be available in three powertrains . There ’s the substructure RWD model , which has a single 214 - HP motor on the rearward wheels . Then , there ’s an AWD fashion model that puts a less - sinewy second - motor on the front wheel , which sits in at 94 H.P. . The Performance model supplant that motor with a 2nd 214 - hp motor , and it can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 6.2 seconds .
The Rivian R1S steps things up a picayune though . All model of the Rivian R1S are all - wheel drive .
